The history of Expocine
EXPOCINE has emerged from a market need to bring together players from the distribution and display segments with their suppliers of technologies, products and services. The existing events revolved around the presentation of the next studio releases to the showers
Expocine is born
The first edition of EXPOCINE takes place, in a small space already within the Frei Caneca Convention Center. There were two days of event, with approximately 20 booths and participation of four major distributors. It was the ideal thermometer to feel how much the cinema needed this event to gather and discuss its market
Twice as many booths
In its second year, Expocine expanded its schedule to three days and doubled the number of booths. It also increased the interaction between the display networks and other market agents.
Spcine meeting
With the newly founded Spcine, the event designed a more complete program with greater access to other areas of the audiovisual sector through the SPCINE Meeting. From this partnership, Expocine also attracted the audiovisual production sector, resulting in significant public growth.
Many new features
Expocine has four days of programming and includes new activities, such as the Bombonières Management course, award distribution, a networking cocktail and a fraternization party. It was also the year with the largest international delegation until then, and featured the presence of special talents, including the BB-8, Star Wars robot, treated as a true star.
EXPOCINE becomes an industry fixture
In its 5th edition, Expocine is consolidated as a reference in training and development for cinema business. Programming highlights included a ESPM course and panels on accessibility and new technologies.
The best EXPOCINE yet
The 6th edition broke all records: more than 2,700 accredited, two courses, 30 panels and lectures, eight presentations of distributors and various innovations. The main one was the integration with the audiovisual production sector, which began to have space at the fair, in the panels and in the dynamics of project pitchings.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, Expocine performed its 7th edition completely online. The event reached more than 3,000 subscribers, with 32 hours of live content, was subsequently made available to the general public, in solidarity with the moment our industry experienced
Beyond release windows
In the return in semi-presence format, Expocine brought fundamental discussions about incentive laws and planning the sector's resumption. This edition was recognized by the Government of the State of São Paulo with the award "Culture of São Paulo 2020/2021".
The industry's recovery
With the industry in full recovery, the 9th edition of Expocine was marked by a focus on growth and strengthening the film market, with resumption of face-to-face activities in their entirety.
Nurturing the future of cinema
The Expocine Decupa is born, an extra event of official programming, in order to show all the stages of a film production, from script to exhibition. With a focus on students and market stakeholders, it reinforces Expocine's commitment to the training of new professionals.
