The recovery of Brazilian cinema won a new chapter at the end of July: the debut of "Spiderman: A New Day" generated the best box office weekend in the country in 36 months, and reinforces a year also moved by other successes such as: "Obsession" and "Devil Dress Prada 2". The theme will be on the agenda of the panels and lectures of Expocine 2026, the largest cinema and audiovisual market in Latin America.
"Spiderman: A New Day" premiered in Brazil on Wednesday, July 29, and already on the first day sold more than 1 million tickets, earning R$ 23.5 million in 24 hours. The following weekend, the film won R$ 102.65 million, surpassing the R$ 101,3 million "Avengers: Ultimate" (2019) and becoming the biggest weekend opening in the history of the country. There were 5.22 million viewers in the period, the best result in 36 months, that is, the best film weekend in Brazil in 3 years. The result represents a growth of 32.8% in relation to the debut of "Spider-Man: No Return Home" (2021).
The good time is not exclusive to blockbusters only. "Obsession", produced with about $750,000, has already exceeded $426 million in world box office, becoming the greatest success in Focus Features history and the most profitable horror film ever made with a budget of less than $1 million, the first original terror to go from $400 million in more than two decades, since M's "Sinals". Night Shyamalan.
"The Devil Dresses Prada 2" also supported the strong year: he led the Brazilian box office in his debut, with R $ 55 million in the weekend, and gathered nearly 7 million viewers in the country's cinemas over 13 weeks on the show, before arriving at Disney+. In the American market, the opening was $77 million, the film took only 9 days to overcome the total world box office of the first film (2006), reaching $433.2 million at the end of the second week.
In the accumulated 2026, the Brazilian market totals R$ 1.67 billion in income and 76.7 million spectators by the end of July, a 10% increase in income and 3% in public over the same period of 2025, according to the B Box Office Brazil Film.
