Expocine 2022 honors three important names of Brazil's exhibition market
It is already a tradition of Expocine the homage to organizations, companies or professionals who have left their marks in the development of the audiovisual industry. There are three recognized categories: displayer, producer and distributor.
This year, in the exhibition category, the tribute will be posthumous to three professionals who made history in Brazil and recently left us: Mario Leopoldo (Mario Pintado) and Mario Luiz Santos, from the network Arcoplex, and Gilberto de Araújo, from Cine Araújo.
Mario Leopoldo dos Santos (Mario Pintado)'s trajectory in the market began in 1961, when he acquired his first cinema in the city of Lages (SC). Since then, he has expanded his performance by much of the South region, making the Arco-Íris Cinemas network one of the country's main networks. In the 1970s, the company was responsible for 70% of the South region's exhibition market, managing rooms such as Cine Cacique, Scala, Astor, Coral, Lido, Ritz, ABC, Avenida and Victoria. In the 2000s, he began to adopt the Arcoplex Cinemas brand, after implementing the Arcoplex Stadium model in its units.
Mario Luiz dos Santos, son of Mario Pintado, had his life dedicated to cinema, starting in the film industry at the age of 15, showing films in 16mm, in a parish hall in the interior of the city of Lages (SC). He ventured into some film productions. At this time, he produced and directed a short film that won Kikito at the Gramado Film Festival. He took over the company when she started calling herself Arcoplex. The network currently has more than 25 complexes spread throughout Brazil, adding 85 rooms, and consolidated in recent years among the country's 15 largest exhibition networks.
Gilberto de Araújo, or Seu Gil, as he was known, directed the Cinematographic Araújo, founded in Botucatu (SP) by his father in 1926, always maintaining good relations with the professionals of the industry, encouraging the local market in every location where he opened a cinema room. In 2010, Cine Araújo pioneered the first Max Screen Digital room in Brazil, equipped with a giant screen and the innovative IMM Sound System. Today, the company has 28 cinemas distributed in 26 cities of 10 states (São Paulo, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rondônia, Acre, Roraima and Amazonas). According to data from Ancine 2020, the network ranked 4th in the ranking of the largest display networks in Brazil.
Mario S. Son, son of Mario Luiz dos Santos and grandson of Mario Pintado, and Marcos de Araújo, son of Gilberto de Araújo, will receive the tribute trophies of Expocine 2022 during the opening ceremony of the event.
The Expocine 2022 takes place between 20 and 23 September, at the Cine Marquise and the Hotel Renaissance, in São Paulo (SP). Ensure your credentials Here..
